How To Clean Silver Jewellery
In this article we are going to explain how to clean silver jewellery, and in particular the silk silver collection.
Silver is an excellent metal for making jewellery because it is precious and can last a lifetime. But when you wear silver jewellery, it will eventually need to be cleaned once in a while. So you might be wondering how to clean your silver jewellery. This is especially true if you have bought the Silk Silver collection.
Also, it can tarnish due to the ph level of your skin. Every person’s PH is different and will affect especially jewellery pieces modelled on the skin.
Another factor is where you live. It might sound a bit odd, but some places are relatively dry, and others are more humid. The humidity has for sure also an effect on your jewellery.
So here you have a small guide on how to care for your silver jewellery, especially the jewellery in the silk silver collection. Luckily this jewellery doesn’t tarnish as quickly as “normal” silver jewellery, so you are in luck.
You can use this guide for other silver jewellery as well. Watch out for silver jewellery that has a gold-plated layer.
Instructions on how to clean the silk silver collection
Wash your tarnished piece with mild soap. You can use soap on a natural basis. But please check it doesn’t interact with Silver.
Next, you can place the piece of jewellery on aluminium foil in the bottom of a container. Make a backing soda solution with 60 grams of soda and Add a baking soda solution of 60 ml or 60 grams of soda and a few teaspoons of salt into 250 ml of boiling water. Now cover for a few minutes. Then rinse your piece thoroughly with water. Do this, otherwise, you might get an unwanted effect. Dry with a cloth and leave them drying by air. Do not store your items wet. To store jewellery wet is not a good idea.
Best not to rub your jewellery n the soda solution. Just leave it to soak.
If you do not achieve the desired outcome, you can use a high-quality silver dip, but we do not recommend it. Since these are very aggressive to the environment and also on your jewellery, this is the last resort.
What is very important when you use a silver dip is to rinse it very thoroughly, as all dip residue needs to be removed.
Never use a polishing cloth on the silk silver collection. It will undo the nice mat exterior that is very much characteristic of this collection. Of course, you can use a polishing cloth on other silver jewellery.
