Where did valentine’s day originate?
Do you know the origins of Valentine’s day? No we have the answer!
The origin of Valentine’s day has its origins in Rome. The festival was called Lupercalia and was celebrated in February. This festival honoured the Roman god of fertility. What they did during this fesitval was the pairinf of men and women through, guess what a lottery -like system. Over time, the celebration became associated with Saint Valentine, a Christian martyr who was executed on February 14th. This was done by Pope Gelasius in 496 AD.
The day became associated with romantic love in the 14th and 15th centuries, likely due to the influence of courtly love and chivalric traditions. Today, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world as a day to express love and affection, often through the exchange of gifts, cards, and flowers.
This is one explanation however, this is not a fact. Some historians argue that the Lupercalia has been taken totally out of context and that it has nothing to do with love, in contrary even.
